INTRODUCTION



This session on "Actions in geotechnical Port Works" presented met 10-year series of seminars organized jointly with the Society of Mechanics and Engineering Geotechnical Suelo (SEMSIG) il'AsociaciĂłn of Firms and technology Suelo Subsuelo (AEtESS). During this time more than 4,000 professionals interested in various techniques related to engineering field have participated in this joint project.
As before, we continue with our goal of promoting a forum discussion in which we can discuss the most important aspects of design, implementation and monitoring of our work. To carry it out, as usual, we provided two round tables: the first devoted to aspects of "DissenyiControl" and the second to the "execution" of special works. Both will be introduced by a series of presentations by experts and renowned professionals in the field of geotechnical and serve as a basis for subsequent discussions on various aspects of the techniques considered and their regulations.

1.-Introduction
As we know process technology in mechanized excavation of tunnels and ancillary equipment have rapidly advanced, the methods used in the construction of ventilation shafts or drainage systems in tunnels or in large urban areas today remain relatively conventional.
The main reason for the low level of mechanization is the necessary flexibility in relation to:

· Diameter or cross section

· Geology
· The presence of groundwater

2 .- Mechanization and innovation in the construction of wells

An innovative development of Herrenknecht for all sorts of excavation Wells is the VSM (Vertical Shaft Sinking Machines), consists mainly of a sink unit and excavation unit and can be used in stable and unstable soils. Because groundwater is so costly excavation below water level, hence a machine concept has been developed which also works well below the water table and reduce costs.


3 .- Description of the process .-
